QUIPS
& QOUTES
Dog World Magazine: June issue features a
Presa Canario listing from "Rush Kennels", Canton, Ohio. As noted in the Ad, the
dogs shown are of Show Stopper Stock. A litter of pups is expected in June. This is John
& Jennifer's first attempt at whelping a Presa. We all wish them success. John Rush
owns S.S. Treacherous, a 2 Year old 140 lb., Red Fawn out of Calybos & Bad Mamba
Jamba. Jennifer Bowen owns S.S. Pandora, an 18 Month old, 120 lb. Dark Brindle out of
Calybos & Electra.
Speaking of Kennels: Bill Thyfault, owner of "Guardian Angels Kennel"
in Lewisburg, Mo., recently picked up his latest additions for his kennel. His two new
female Presa pups are from Show Stopper Kennels, out of Ch. S.S. Andromina (Train) and Ch.
S.S. Posidan, TT (Bull). This now gives Bill a total of four Show Stopper Females, plus
his young Stud dog S.S. Shaka Zula who is one year old and 135 lbs. Shaka is out of CH.
S.S. Medusa TT, and sired by Ch. S.S. Mufasa TT.
We feel very confident, the Mid West will now have easy access to quality Presa
Canario's through Bill and his family's diligence in breeding for quality size, soundness,
and true Island Temperament. Best wishes from all of us here at NPPCC headquarters.
What do Presa's have in common with custom motorcycles? Well, just ask Presa
owner and custom bike designer, Eddie Trotta, of "Thunder Designs", 629 Sunrise
Blvd. Ft. Lauderdale,FI. 33304. Here's a quote from Eddie:
Dear Mr. Kelly,
I can't tell you how much we all love this dog. S.S. Jocko is almost 11 months now, he
weighs 120 lbs. He is being kept very slim. He gets a lot of exercise and I take him to
work with me everyday. We also used him in a few TV Commercials, and he has become very
well known. People come to my store everyday just to come see Jocko. Well, I just wanted
to share some photos with you and brag about my dog.
He is very cool.
Thanks again.
(Note: Jocko is out of Ch. S.S> Medusa U & CH. S.S. Mufasa TT)
Seems like the Presa is gaining in popularity in the Fort Lauderdale area, thanks in
part to Dr. Nassburg and Buster and now through the television celebrity Jocko. A friend
of Eddie Trotta, Jim Anderson, from the Ft. Lauderdale area, called to reserve two female
pups, one out of Medusa and the other from Hakuna Matata. According to Jim, he was tired
of playing with Jocko and decided he wants two of his own.
The Missing Presa Story Tyke, the missing Presa was one of
the very first dogs Show Stoppers Kennels shipped to California. The dog's original owner
professed Tyke as an exceptional Wild Boar Hunter by the age of one. For reasons unknown
to us, Tyke was given to Steve and Donna Tinbal of Simi Valley, Ca., resulting in the
attached Newspaper article. Tyke is out of Ch. S.S. Bad Mamba Jamba and Ch. S.S. Calybos.
Steve and Donna loved the breed so much that they ordered and have received their
beautiful female, born 1/5/97, out of CH. S.S. Electra TT and sired by Ch. S.S. Mufasa.
Donna and new Presa owner, Rio Demers, plan to begin exhibiting their new charges. By the
way, Rio's new pup is a brindle male out of Ch. S.S. Bad Mamba Jamba and Ch. S.S. Posidan.
Living is such a densely populated area Rio decided to name her male pup S.S. Bad Traffic
Jamba. Ha! Ha! Ha!
To The Extremes New Presa owner, Kevin Pollard of Sicklerville, NJ, thought so
much of this breed and his new Show Stopper Presa, he had a tatoo of the 'Gripper' logo
placed on his upper arm. The words Presa Canario are across the top and his dogs call
name, Goliath is underneath. By the way, this Presa pup is a clone of his father, Ch. S.S.
Posidan.
Frank Dombrowski of Dauphen, Pa. heard there was a fawn Presa male
available at Show Stoppers Kennels out of Ch. S.S. Electra IT and Ch. S.S. Mufasa TT., due
to a last minute contract cancellation. Frank wasn't at the Kennels more than 15 Minutes,
and it was a done deal. After a few weeks went by, Frank called Show Stopper to inform
them he was entering his pup in a rare breed dog show in Harrisburg, Pa. We are awaiting
the results and some photos. His male is a sibling to S.S. Delphyne, who is currently the
all time winningest Junior Presa pup.

THE
GRIPPER GRIPE
Here we go again, another call for help to the NPPCC, from a new novice, Presa
Canaria owner, located in the state of Virginia. It seems Mr. Ross Poole purchased what he
believed to be a pure Presa. He paid good money ($1,200.00), but he began to have doubts
as to the show quality of the dog when his veterinarian indicated a congenital defect with
the length of the dog's tongue. Ross contacted Show Stoppers and the breed club (NPPCC) to
confirm whether or not the extra long tongue was indeed a severe fault. Unfortunately for
Ross, during the inquiry he learned the dog had other faults indicating impure breeding.
The dog in question is a blue brindle with a blue snout and light color eyes. It was
explained how the Spanish Kennel Club Standard clearly states the Presa must always have a
black snout and eye color of medium to dark brown. Besides, there is no such thing as a
blue Presa, including blue brindles. To compound the scenario, it seems Ross purchased the
bogus Presa from someone in the state of Maryland, who represented himself as a dog broker
who had purchased a litter of these so-called Presa's from a questionable breeder in the
Philadelphia area. Unfortunately, this person representing himself as a dog broker, does
not have a Maryland Dog Broker's License. Ross has requested his money back or a
replacement with a recognized show quality Presa Canario. The seller refuses to do
anything and so Ross has initiated legal action with support of the Maryland Consumer
Protection Agency.
The following is a direct quote from Ross to Show Stoppers, along with their response:
Richard,
Just a note to thank you for your time and patience with my frequent calling. I wanted
you to take a look at the photos of my "Band' dog. Give me your opinion. If at all
possible, send me a letter as founder of the NPPCC, stating your opinion of the dog, so
that I may send it with my paperwork to the consumer Protection Agency. Another opinion
would help. I will be sending you a deposit, and giving you another call to make a
reservation by next weekend.
Again, Richard, I thank you for your help and in formative nature.
Ross Poole.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Ross,
We received your Photo's of your supposed Presa Canario dog. It's readily
understandable why you are so concerned about the purity of this dogs heritage. The
disqualifying defects are quite obvious when measured against the Spanish Kennel Club
Standard.
The standard clearly states that the stout must always be in black. The eyes vary
between medium to dark brown. Lighter colors are inescapable. As the photos of your dog
clearly show, the eyes are blue and so is the snout, indicating impure breeding. As for
the extended tongue, your veterinarian should be able to confirm this condition as
congenital. The quality of the photos limits our commentary about the eye (Haw). Please
refer to the breed standard.
The National Perro de Presa Canario Club adheres to the same Spanish Kennel Club
Standard as printed in our color brochure. As an officer of the NPPCC, it is my opinion,
the photos sent for my inspection are those of a dog with questionable heritage and
obvious impure breeding, certainly unworthy of the show ring.
